Aren’t grain bowls amazing?

All that deliciousness packed into a warm bowl. When I think of a grain bowl, it makes me want to make a big warm bowl of goodness and curl up under a blanket and eat!

But good news! Grain bowls aren’t just for dinner! You can eat grain bowls at any meal and they are super nutritious and easy to make in just a few steps!

Grain bowls are perfect meals for meal prepping.*

Are you ready?

Here’s how to build one with just 5 easy steps!

Step 1: Start with a base.

Typically a grain bowl will start with, well, a grain. You can use the traditional rice or quinoa for sure, but there are other ways to start your bowl. Try:

  • Rice (white or brown)
  • Quinoa
  • Oats
  • Rice noodles
  • Cauliflower rice
  • Cubed and roasted sweet potatoes

Step 2: Pick your protein.

Protein is the star in your rice bowl. Be sure to choose a high quality protein! Here are some examples:

  • Chicken
  • Steak
  • Sausage
  • Shrimp
  • Salmon
  • Egg
  • Tofu

Step 3: Make a sauce

This step can even be omitted if sauce isn’t your thing. Feel free to get creative here. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Pesto
  • Your favorite dressing (think green goddess..)
  • Hummus
  • Yogurt Sauce
  • Soy sauce

Step 4: Add some veggies!

In my opinion, this is the best step! You can add almost any veggies (cooked or raw) to your grain bowl. The options are limitless (ok, not actually limitless..)

  • Avocado
  • Tomato
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Grilled corn
  • Onions
  • Roasted root vegetables
  • Spiralized zucchini
  • Roasted broccoli
  • Roasted red peppers

5. Top it off!

Have fun with this step! Top that bowl with anything that you like.

  • Microgreens
  • Chopped nuts (like pistachios, walnuts, almonds)
  • Cheese (cheddar, goat, parmesan, feta)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Fresh herbs (think cilantro or parsley)
  • Crispy chickpeas

*Helpful Prep Tip!

Prepare your grains, meats, veggies and sauces at the beginning of the week. Store separately from each other until you are ready to assemble your bowl.

Lunch (or dinner) is served!

Enjoy!
